Parenting and Family work
Much has been written about the importance of parenting, and what a challenging job parenting can be even when everything goes according to plan. As a society, we place a lot of hope on good parenting, but provide very little support or information on developmental milestones to increase the likelihood of a successful outcome. Normal relationship changes in family dynamics that occur at different stages whether it is after a baby enters any family, adolescent needs for limits and supervision or helping a young adult emancipate. Whether it is feeling competent as a new parent with feeding and attuning to the infant's needs; providing the structure needed to assist a newly adopted child adjust to the family; a mom struggling with Post Partum Depression; or having a teen become involved with substance using peers or in the legal system, parents cannot do this job alone. These high stressed families are more complex and at greater risk of breakdown. My goals are to normalize high stressed and transitional times for families and to provide the needed parenting skills, support and self care.
