Recovery from Substance Abuse and Dependence

  • The dictionary defines recovery as a reclaiming or a return of something lost. According to this definition you reclaim health, sanity and well being. I work with addictions systemically. My goals are to help you understand your addiction and become honest with yourself knowing that this will relieve your anxiety and help you create a more balanced life for yourself. Recovery doesn't mean your life will change from bad to good but will facilitate making choices and decisions about how you want to act on those feelings. You will move from living a false life to a spiritual life, and that is transformative. Your life won't be either good or bad. It will be joyful and painful, sweet and sour, filled with both complexity & paradoxes.
  • Recovery involves physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual changes. It is a process of gradually achieving greater balance of mind, body, spirit in relation to family, work, peers & community.
  • Recovery is a change in life priorities - a building increased closeness w/family members & others, increased self efficacy & compassion. A process of becoming involved in constructive roles through being productive, helping others, and making contributions.
